I heart Jayson Tatum. I heart him almost as much as I heart Luka Doncic. He is an absolute beast on the offensive and defensive end. At 22, he’s already made 2 Eastern Conference Finals and been named an NBA All-Star… and he dominated the Wizards last night in the play-in game.
So isn’t he exactly the kind of high upside/high production potential future NBA Hall of Famer you should invest in right now? Yes and no.
I heart Tatum. I heart his market. I heart his potential and his production. But I don’t heart his chances to beat his 1st round opponent… and I don’t heart the Celtics’ roster as presently constructed around him and the injured Jaylen Brown.
With a likely quick first round exit at the hands of KD, The Beard, and Kyrie, the short term hype and value pump from his three 50 point games in the last month will dissipate just as quickly as they rose.
Why pay that premium when you can wait a month or two into the Celtics’ offseason and pick up a few Tatum rookies at a 20-30% discount from current levels? Help impatient flippers free up funds for their next prospect du jour while you keep stocking up on Tatum.
Just don’t stock up on him right now.
As always, I’m Freddy… and you’re welcome.
