I did it again. I know. I know.
Last time I said I’m normally solid when it comes to remembering to set myibidder eBay snipe app, but i erred again sports card universe. I erred again.
Turns out having two kids under 3 still takes up an extraordinary amount of free time… even when they are healthy.
Again. It’s not an excuse… just an honest recounting of another sports card failure.
Instead of wallowing in self pity, let’s see what lessons we can glean from yet another Freddy Find failure.
#1. Drew Brees‘s Upper Deck Pros & Prospects PSA 10 is currently worth 2.3% of Tom Brady‘s.
Astonishing? Shocking? No doubt Tom Brady will go down as the most accomplished football player ever and there should be an insane premium paid for that excellence, but dear lord man… 44X seems steep. Not that the Brady is overpriced in my opinion. Not at all. The Brees is waaaaaaaaaaaay underpriced.
“Duh, Freddy. You call this series of blog posts, “eBay steal of the day.”
Touche.
I’m just flabbergasted how such a sizable gap is possible when Drew Brees is tops, or top 2-3 in almost every QB statistic known to (wo) man?
#2. Off of field. Out of mind?
Tom is currently having an MVP caliber season for yet another Super Bowl contender while Drew analyzes Sunday Night Football on NBC. Obviously the hobby prefers the hype and gambling rush of buying and selling active players, but the well-liked Saint is a high profile tv analyst with a lot of public facing businesses and charities. He should remain prominently in the public eye.
#3. Opportunity Hard Knocks.
Serial numbered rookie cards of a fan favorite 1st ballot Hall of Fame Super Bowl MVP quarterback have to rise well above the cost of super express grading eventually. IT HAS TOO. RIGHT!? We prospect to find prospects that turn into Hall of Fame legends.
If Topps and Panini don’t print the hobby to death in the next few years and the hobby experiences longer term health — I know that’s a big IF — I see a continued opportunity in retired QB greats like Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Troy Aikman, and John Elway.
FREDDY FORECAST: A PSA 10 2001 Upper Deck Pros & Prospects Drew Brees will fetch $1,000 by the time he gets fitted for that gold jacket.
As always, I’m Freddy… and you’re welcome.
