You would have also been able to call the now 23 year old the 2021 AL MVP if Shohei Ohtani hadn’t done a modern Babe Ruth impression.
When it comes to modestly priced rookies of the Dominican Destroyer with some upside, most folks point to the “short print” no number from 2019 Topps Series 2.
A PSA 10 recently sold for $142.50.
But a quick peek at the PSA pop report shows that there are already 4,610 PSA 10 gem mint cards out of 9,493 graded for a 48.5% gem rate.
Not exactly what I consider a rare short print…
That’s not remotely rare.
Unless you compare it to the Fernando Tatis Topps base rookie with 18,865 PSA 10s out of 33,062 graded for a 57% gem rate.
89 Upper Deck Griffey’s PSA 10s look scant compared to the Tatis.
Touche. You kid… but there’s actually less 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey, Jr. PSA 10s than “short print” NNO Guerrero, Jr.’s.
NO WAY.
Way.
That’s… not good.
I concur.
But what if I told you someone that remembered to set up their eBay snipe —

Unfortunately. What if I told you someone, not me, was able to snag a a true short print with 15 times less gem cards than the Topps no number Vladdy, Jr. for half the cost?
NO WAY.
Way.
Let me present the last sale of the 2019 Heritage High Number Action Vladimir Guerrero Junior in all it’s PSA 10 Gem mint glory.
There are only 301 PSA 10s out of 388 graded.
The gem rate is high at 78%, but I’ll take the true short print card with a gem pop 15 times less all day, every day.
Will the Prince of Plakata continue to contain himself around his abuela’s dominican beef stew long enough to join his dad, Vlad the Impaler, in the hall of fame?
I think it’s a good bet he will. Light tower power + surgical plate discipline is usually a winning combination.
