The man is a f-ing monster on the basketball court. He’s a walking double double who also enjoys swatting shots at a record pace for the Sixers. Embiid can score from anywhere on the court, and he’s not afraid to throw down with ANYONE.
“Troel” is not just an ALL-NBA player. He’s also a hilarious ALL-NBA trash talker and tweeter.

And the perennial MVP candidate is still only 28.
So he’s just coming into his prime. CHECK.
Dominant two way player that puts up MVP-type numbers. CHECK.
Plays in a large passionate market. CHECK.
Big personality. CHECK.
Joel Embiid SEEMS like the perfect addition to our sports card collection. He’s a dominant skilled player with a f-ing killer personality, and a ton of potential for future success.
BUT… and it’s a big BUT. He’s frequently injured and has stacked teams in Milwaukee and Boston that keep impeding him from getting to the NBA Finals… and we all know there is limited long term investability without at least 1 ring.
So what am I doing?
I’m NOT buying Joel Embiid right now. Vegas money doesn’t have the Sixers winning the title or Embiid winning MVP so his rookie cards will be cheaper in the offseason if you are so inclined.
Will I buy in the offseason? Not sure. But he sure is talented on and off the court… and if he was able to get a ring as THE ALPHA his cards would jump.
Who knows? Investing in sports cards is like playing Russian roulette, except with less danger and more reward. So you could ahead and buy those cards, but remember, “Investing in sports cards is like f-ing your ex. You know it’s probably a bad idea, but you just can’t resist the temptation.”
